Not even the weather forecasters had foreseen it. It was a pleasant summer evening like any other, and the sun had just dropped below the horizon when suddenly, in the twilight, a tremendous rain of meteors lit up the sky burning through the shimmering atmosphere. A sudden, strong wind was palpable and, at that moment, we all knew something had changed.
Within days, people began to feel the transformation of new life forms buzzing inside computer networks, taking shape throughout our electronic devices. They were at once foreign and new, but also familiar as they attached themselves to bits of human life and culture that were part of our everyday lives. Wherever they decided to land, each of them found a natural foothold and resonance.
These nano-sized particles of life were plug-compatible, and they quickly began to adopt the network cloud as their new universe. They bonded with earthly elements capable of their survival, making our world a perfect host for their growth in strength and numbers.
The humans became familiar with these NanoStar characters. It became clear to them that these miniscule creatures had splintered from an explosion on a large and distant planet, sending a titanic shockwave through the universe.
The NanoStar characters are intelligent and industrious; both friends and enemies with each other. They are composed of five distinct clans – the City, the Wild, the Tech, the Elemental, and the Spirit – all originating from different regions of their home planet. But despite their success on Earth, they remain divided along clan lines, blaming each other for the mistreatment and explosion of the world they'd known for millennia. The NanoStar characters do remain unified along only one front, however: They all want to go home.
